Lao transport minister visits Vietnam

Lao Minister of Public Works and Transport Sommad Pholsena is on a working visit to Vietnam, aiming at increasing cooperation between the two transport sectors.

The visit is also to strengthen the special traditional friendship between the two countries, he told Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at meeting in Hanoi on Dec. 19.

The Lao minister briefed the Deputy PM on discussions and cooperation between the two transport ministries as well as the signing of a bilateral comprehensive cooperative agreement in transport until 2015.

Minister Sommad Pholsena spoke highly of the efforts and assistance of Vietnamese experts for development of transport infrastructure in Laos.

He affirmed his intention to efficiently implement bilateral agreements, contributing to maintaining and promoting the Vietnam-Laos traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation.

Deputy PM Phuc spoke highly of outcomes from the two ministries’ cooperation in experience sharing and human resource training.

He affirmed his support for the implementation of the two ministries’ future cooperative agreements.

Vietnam wants to work with Laos to develop the two countries’ relations in a deeper, more practical and effective manner./.

VN, Laos sign agreement on comprehensive transport cooperation for 2011-2020

VGP – Minister of Transport Đinh La Thăng and his Lao counterpart Sommad Phosena on Monday signed an agreement on comprehensive cooperation for 2011-2020 between the two transport ministries.

Under the agreement, the two countries will promote comprehensive cooperation in sub-sectors of road construction, operation and management; railway construction, operation and management; port and maritime activities;

Inland waterway construction, operation and management; civil aviation management, logistics, transport safety; technical inspection; scientific and technology research; environmental protection; human resource development, and financing for transport infrastructure development.

Conference will be held in Việt Nam and Laos in rotation in order to promote reserches and technical cooperation in these above areas.

Both sides encourage information exchange about relevant policies, legislation and regulation; contacts between the corresponding business and organizations.

During the talks held earlier between the two transport ministers, the two sides also agreed to establish an inter-ministerial working group to deploy one-stop shop mechanism at Việt Nam– Laos border gates to facilitate trade exchanges.
