Leaders from the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the government yesterday visited the Lao People's Army's Chor-11 battalion in Vientiane province to mark the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the army.

The delegation was led by Politburo member and Vice President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachit, Politburo member and National Assembly President Ms Pany Yathortou, and former Politburo members General Sisavath Keobounphanh, and Lieutenant General Samane Vinhaket.
Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Lieutenant General Duangchay Phichit; Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Asang Laoly; Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Thongloun Sisoulith; and Politburo member and Minister of Education and Sports Dr Phankhan Viphavanh also took part in the visit.
Party leaders and government officials watched a demonstration of battle tactics at the Academy of Ground Troops.
The hour long demonstration included rehearsals of battle tactics in various situations and geographic conditions.
The soldiers took part in training operations involving various obstacles on both land and water, and ran drills on both flat and mountainous terrain.
They practiced their combat skills in both rural and urban battle areas, and strategies for countering various situations such as terrorist attacks or rebels.
Party leaders were also on hand to observe and inspect the equipment of different divisions of the army, including communications, construction, armour, artillery, and anti-artillery units. The visit is one of several activities being undertaken by Party and government leaders to mark the army's anniversary today.
They have already visited various battalions and divisions and will visit more army units throughout the country over the next few days.
