Collection of land tax changes hands

The Vientiane Natural Resources and Environment Department on Wednesday handed over the task of land tax collection to the Vientiane Finance Department, to ensure more efficient income collection and management.

Deputy Director General of the Vientiane Natural Resources and Environment Department Mr Somphone Khounphilom officially handed over the work of land tax collection to Deputy Director General of the Vientiane Finance Department Mr Sisouphan Xaypanya.

The handover ceremony was attended by Vientiane Vice Mayor Dr Anouphab Tounalom, the governors of Vientiane's nine districts, and other related officials.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Anouphab said the change in responsibility will require close cooperation between the relevant departments to achieve land tax collection goals.

“More improvement in the implementation of this work is needed to ensure success, and the civil servants involved need to shoulder more responsibility,” he said.

The relevant departments and their staff will meet to discuss how they can make their work more efficient.

According to a report, the Vientiane Natural Resources and Environment Department and its relevant sectors in the nine districts of the capital stopped land tax collection on February 17. To date they have collected more than 40.9 billion kip, equivalent to 86. 58 percent of the plan.

The Vientiane Finance Department will continue the task, aiming to collect the remaining land tax of just over 6.3 billion kip, equivalent to 13.42 percent of the total amount targeted.
