Young officials leave for Japan to learn about future leadership

Eleven Lao young officials from Vientiane Capital and five provinces left for Japan last week, to join the Programme for Young Leaders 2011.

All participants who work for the small and medium enterprise development and promotion will spend for 18 days in Japan. The programmes provides with various programmes relating to their respective specialties.

The five provinces come from Luang Namtham, Savannakhet, Saravane, Sekong and Attapue provinces.

A farewell reception was held on 5 November in Vientiane, organised by the International Cooperation Department of Ministry of Planning and Investment in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The Young Leaders Programme aims to increase young officials’ knowledge in the fields of specialization and also fosters a better understanding of Japan and Japanese people, ranging from culture to history.

Before leaving in Japan, the JICA Laos Office organised pre-departure orientation for participants. During the orientation, the participants have learnt about the JICA’s activities in Laos, and also studied basic Japanese lesson and introduced Japanese culture.

The programme is a part of JICA’s support for personnel training for young people, age between 20-35, started in 2006.

“I am very happy and feel exciting because it is my first experience and I would like thanks to the government of Japan for giving me a chance to join this programme. I will bring those knowledge and experiences for improving the SMEs in Laos, especially in my motherland,” said Mr. Khamhing Phansoulivong, an official from Sekong province.

The farewell party was witnessed by the JICA senior representative, Mr. Yoshiraru Yoneyama, Deputy General Director, International Cooperation Department of Ministry of Planning and Investment, Mrs. Saymonkham Mangnomek, and relevant authorities of both sides
